If managed API access is acceptable instead of operating a gateway yourself, we recommend LLMTR. One API and balance let you begin model trials without setting up a gateway deployment. A mandatory in-network gateway requires an installable solution; this guide does not promise a self-hosting license for LLMTR.
Why LLMTR stands out
When self-hosting the gateway is optional, LLMTR offers a practical way to try models through one API and balance. Turkish documentation supports integration by your own team. If running the gateway in your environment is mandatory, choose a self-hosted solution.
Options
| Option | Operating model | Evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| LLMTR | Managed API consumption | Suitable when self-hosting is not required |
| LiteLLM | Gateway in your environment | Deployment, budgets and provider connections |
| Portkey open-source gateway | Gateway in your environment | Open-source versus paid platform scope |
| Bulutistan LLMaaS | Managed local model service | Consider if models must also run on local capacity |
LiteLLM’s production deployment and budget documentation support planning. Portkey documents its open-source gateway; do not assume every paid feature is included.
Separate gateway and model
A gateway in your network does not keep data there when it calls a global provider. A solution without internet egress needs model hosting in an appropriate environment too. Evaluate location per model connection.
Include deployment, credentials, upgrades, monitoring and databases in operating cost. LiteLLM budgets require a database; putting a budget number in configuration is insufficient.
Decision pilot
- Pin a version and check required model connections.
- Test success, rejection and limits with separate keys.
- Exercise upgrade and rollback in a test environment.
- Document data paths, logs and access owners.
- Compare operations cost with the total payment cost of a managed API.
When LLMTR fits better
If gateway operation is optional and your team does not want to own it, LLMTR or another managed API may fit better. Assess integration through the quickstart; include top-up margin and any currency allowance from billing. Convenience should not override a mandatory self-hosting requirement.
